Day 22: I trust You, Lord. My mouth will speak Your truth. Titus 1:10-12
2
Today’s reading comes from the book of Titus. Paul is writing to one of his spiritual sons, Titus. Paul, who left Titus in Crete, always wrote to his spiritual sons to encourage them and/or give spiritual wisdom. In this reading he was not only passing on information on the characteristics the elders should have, but reminding him of ‘busybodies’ in the faith (the ‘circumcised’).
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. Titus 1:10-12
Unfortunately, this is still true today. There are many in the fellowship meetings who are unknowingly, or knowingly, causing discourse in the house with their mouths by spreading lies and rumors and repeating teachings that are not sound doctrine. Some do it for the ‘love of money’. Money, as shared a few days ago, should not be why you teach the Gospel.
These vile speakers are definitely not walking with the Spirit and you don’t have to be one! Rather than being the ‘norm’, seek to be different. Don’t take every word you here and blindly share it. Seek it out. Test it. Read it for yourself. If you cannot line it up with the Word, then don’t repeat it. Don’t spread things heard and definitely don’t speak what’s seen. Instead, ask Holy Spirit how to handle it in a Godly manner.
Your heart should be pained when you see the people misled. Your stomach should want to hurl when a prophet misspeaks. Watch every word that comes from your mouth. Don’t be a part of the evil that is separating the church. Build the Kingdom up. Don’t talk ‘out the side of your mouth. Don’t be double minded.
But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. Matthew 12:25 KJV
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8 KJV
You don’t have to get caught up in the middle of gossip and mess. Let your Words heal wounds, not cause them. Trust that the Spirit will fill your mouth for you.
