Day 79: I trust you, Lord. Receiving my gift through obedience. Matthew 6
At some point, go to someone and hand them a $20 bill. Ask them to hand it back to you so that they can receive what’s in your other hand. If they comply, hand them the $100 bill you have in your other hand. If they don’t comply…well, share this reading with them no matter what. It was only through the person’s compliance, or obedience, that they could receive what you have for them, correct? The people who did not comply could not receive the greater gift because they chose not to obey.
Now think of your Father in Heaven. He has so much He wants to give you. How do you know?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:26-34
What lesson are you getting here? Well, He has commanded you not to worry. He has told you to seek the kingdom of God (Jesus Christ) and His right standing first. Doing these two tasks means everything you need shall be given to you. Simple as that. If you worry, you fail to seek Him first. If we fail to seek Him first, you won’t have your needs met.
God made the ultimate sacrifice: He gave you His Son. All you have to do is receive it. It costs nothing, but it cost Him everything. If you are holding onto everything He has asked you to release, then how can you ever get what He has for you? You have to let it go through obedience. You have to comply.
If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15
Jesus says to keep His commandments and that will show Him you love Him. There is no other requirement except obedience. Obedience is key!
You are saved by faith. The act of receiving salvation requires faith. Having faith shows obedience. How? Let’s see:
- God asks for obedience for you to receive. Matthew 6:33
- He offers salvation for free. Romans 6:23
- Through obedience, you receive it.
- You are saved through faith. Ephesians 2:8
- Having faith shows obedience.
In plain terms, you will not obey someone you have no faith in. Instead, you will deliberately disobey because either you don’t trust the repercussions or you don’t trust the reward. Let’s prove this: if you speed, then you either do not trust that it is not safe or you do NOT trust that it is safe NOT to speed. Think of other rules or laws that are broken and the reasons why. It will all boil down to lack of faith in something, and this is true with God. If you are disobedient, you will not have faith, you will not receive salvation, and you will NOT be privy to what He has for you.
Take a look at your actions each day. Think before you react. Examine your motives. Are you showing faith through obedience? Are you on the verge of missing the opportunity to receive something good that was planned for you? Is your faith in God lacking because you do not fear the repercussions of your actions or not trust in the rewards? Be obedient. Receive salvation. Show faith.
