Day 56: I trust You, Lord. Not interfering anymore. 2 Samuel 6:1-8
How many times have you asked God for help and decided to help Him help you? Never you say? What about when you were trusting for a promotion on the job but started selling yourself to the decisions makers just in case they missed how great you are? What about the time you needed some extra cash and asked God for it but went to get a pay day loan because you needed the money for tomorrow? How about when you believed for your husband to get saved but kept beating him over the head with the word? Now seriously examine your actions. Has there EVER been a time when you asked God for something and decided you needed to help Him to help you? Afterwards, did you find that you really messed things up and realized God didn’t need your help?
And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 2 Samuel 6:6 KJV
Have you ever heard people say that God doesn’t need to be defended? Why do you think this is?
"Can you discover the depths of God? Can you discover the limits of the Almighty? Job 11:7 NASB
Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. Psalm 143: NIV
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28 ESB
Depending on the version of Bible you use, these are all are saying that it is IMPOSSIBLE to understand the depths of God’s thinking and what he is doing. His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). When He decides to do something, it will be done how He wants it to be done. All you have to do is trust it.
Uzzah saw the ark falling and reached out to catch it…like God really needed his help! And he died because of this. God didn’t need his help. If the ark fell, it fell for a reason. The ark had been in Uzzah’s house for so long, he forgot to reverence it. It became the thing that was familiar, no longer holy. Oh, he knew the presence was there. Everyone who was anyone knew that, but he’d forgotten that God didn’t need his help and he lost his life trying to do a ‘good’ thing. Furthermore, the ark was to be carried a specific way by specific people and Uzzah was not that specific person. Guess he forgot that too.
God does not need your help. When you ask Him for something, wait for Him to give you further instructions or do nothing at all. Doing nothing at all when you are in need is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but DO NOTHING! Trust that when you petitioned God, He will come through for you. Don’t do a single thing if you have not been instructed to do so. He doesn’t want your help and he doesn’t need it. If an instruction comes for you to do something, you better believe it’s so that glory can be received in a different situation and perhaps for someone else.
Example: you are asking God for money to pay for a great need. You’ve asked and are now sitting doing nothing. Now God has asked you to go to the bank and inquire about a loan. While there, you end up praying with the loan officer, forgetting all about the loan application. You get a call saying the loan was processed and approved. What do you do? He didn’t send you there to get a loan. He sent you there to inquire about a loan and led you to pray. He never said take the loan. You have to be VERY careful what you decide to do when you’ve sought help. Taking that loan could lead to your death.
Don’t be like Uzzah. Don’t try to help, God. He doesn’t need your help. If you ask, let Him do it. Listen carefully. Follow His guidance. Be obedient. Your disobedience will lead you to death. It’s that serious.
Trust Him. Please, trust Him,
