Day 23 - Trust Walk

Trust Walk Day 23:  I trust You, Lord.  I will not remain a slave to sin. Romans 6

Romans 6....ROMANS 6...there is so much to say about Romans 6.  Where to start?  How about the beginning.

Romans 6 opens with telling you that you should not continue sinning because you have grace. If you have been baptized (do you know that baptism means to die?) in Christ, you have died the death He died and have risen from the dead as He has...brand new to this world. (2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:3)

You know how people are always saying that we are all sinners saved by grace? Well, that's not scriptural. Really we all WERE sinners, saved by grace. Once saved, you should not sin any more. It's one more thing you most actively practice: living a sin free life. Sinless is what you should aim for, not sinning less. There are those who say this is impossible because we were born into sin, but did they forget they were born again.  Hence, their sin nature died once they became alive with Christ. That's a good way to summarize this chapter.

So why do believers keep sinning?  Well, they still have a slave mentality. When the Israelites left Egypt, they left all that they knew. They were generation upon generation born into slavery. They had a slave mentality.  When they were free, they were willing to return to slavery because freedom was just too hard. Are you like that?  Willing to return to sin because living sinless is just too hard. If so, you have a slave mentality; you are a slave to sin.

A lady was minding her own business while visiting her with sister. Out of nowhere she hears yelling between her niece and her niece's boyfriend. She continued minding her own business, but the boyfriend begins to verbally attack her. He called her a hypocrite, a 'supposed to be a Christian', and other choice names. Rather than take him own, she addressed the demons he was a host for. After addressing the demons, the guy calmed down and apologized (or was it the demon apologizing...hmmm).

You see, in the past, this young lady would have given this fella some choice words of her own, along with some choice licks 'upside his head'.  That's how she is accustomed to responding, Christian or not. But this time, she addressed the demon and kept her peace. She recognized that she was being tempted back into her sin nature, her old ways. The temptation to go back to your old self is like whack a mole. They keep popping up but each time, you need to recognize the attack and smack them back down with the word.

Be free from sin. Don't turn back like the Israelites wanted too. They were delivered and it was almost for nothing because they were willing to go back to slavery. If you turn back to sin, Jesus' death would be for nothing because he has already delivered you from sin.  Get rid of your slave mentality. Renew your mind! Don't let you old sin nature rule in your brand new life.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  Romans 12:12

Practice walking in freedom. Trust Him to help you live sinless because sinning less just won't do.

Freely,
Keiyia JOYet George
